Does your dog have a smell? Some dogs smell good just after taking a bath, but a bad smell will start to appear again after a few days; some dogs cannot wash it off no matter how much they are washed. That smell.

In fact, this smell is the "body odor" of dogs, which is mostly emitted from the mouth, skin, ears, tail, secretory glands and other parts. Generally speaking, the body odor of large dogs is slightly heavier, while that of small dogs is lighter. Even puppies have some odor. These are normal conditions. However, we can only help dogs reduce the intensity of body odor, but there is no way to completely eliminate it. Get rid of body odor.

Normally, dog body odor comes from the secretions of sebaceous glands. When the secretions of sebaceous glands synthesize with the air, or with the bacteria/yeast on the dog's own body, such body odor will be produced, which is normal.

Long-haired dogs have less oil, while short-haired dogs have more oil. These oils are used to protect the dog's fur. If the owner keeps bathing the dog very seriously because he smells the dog's body odor, the effect of doing so will only get worse. Because the more often you bathe, the more hair you shed. The more hair you shed, the sebaceous glands will accelerate the secretion of oil. The more oil, the more "smell" your dog will have.

Generally speaking, dogs have strong "body odor", and the most common reasons are the following:

1. Not bathing often enough to remove dirt from the body

2. Dogs in their prime will have more endocrine secretions than dogs of other ages, especially dogs with oily skin. When hormones are secreted too much and the living environment is humid, it is easy for the dog's skin to breed a large number of bacteria, thus emitting a strong smell

3. When dogs are in estrus or breeding period, their bodies will secrete a special sex hormone to increase their willingness to mate, so their body odor will also be very strong

4. Some breeds and genetically inherited dogs have stronger body odor than other dogs, such as Shar-Pei

5. If the dog has bad breath, periodontitis, gingivitis, diabetes, ear inflammation, skin disease, etc., it will easily make the body odor more intense

6. After the dog has eaten a full meal, if there are food residues left in the mouth, and the owner fails to brush and clean the dog’s teeth in time, it will also increase the dog’s body odor

7. If large dogs eat less dog food and more meat, they will easily develop fishy body odor

8. Dog saliva and nasal mucus have their own smell, and dogs have the habit of licking their own hair, so they often spread the unpleasant smell all over their bodies without realizing it

9. It is difficult to clean long-haired dogs. Even if the owner bathes the dog diligently, it is difficult to completely wash away the skin dirt, thus making the body odor stronger
