After the puppies are born, what should you pay attention to in terms of dietary care?

After puppies are born, they look small, fleshy, and very delicate. So what should you pay attention to in the puppy’s diet?

1. Dogs should mainly pay attention to adjusting the position of the puppy and avoid polarization

After the puppies are born, they swing their heads from side to side and tentatively move towards the mother dog's nipples. They look for the nipples by touch. As soon as they touch the nipples, they immediately curl their tongues and suck. However, weak puppies are unable to move and often cannot find the nipple in time or are easily squeezed out. Some female dogs often abandon puppies that do not grow well and push them out of the birth box or block them outside.

At this time, the dog owner should adjust the position of the puppy so that the weak puppies can eat the nipple with more milk, and the strong ones can eat the nipple with less milk in the front first. This will allow a litter of puppies to grow evenly and avoid polarization.

2. Weaning milk powder can be added appropriately

Puppies naturally grow with their mothers and will not be weaned until one to one and a half months. During this process, there is no need to add other foods to the puppies. Don’t give your dog weaning food until it’s time to wean.

Dog owners can buy weaning powder (powdered feed, which makes puppies less prone to diarrhea and has a higher absorption rate) or dog milk powder to brew for puppies to drink. You can also use puppy feed to soften it and give it to puppies. . Then, slowly let the dog gradually reduce the number of times it eats breast milk, until it finally eats soaked puppy food completely.

3. If the mother dog has mastitis, the puppies should be weaned early

If the mother of the dog is sick or has severe mastitis and is unable to breastfeed herself, she can only be weaned by force, but it must be done at least 20 days after birth. In this way, the puppy will be easier to raise. Generally, small dogs should start weaning after 40 days, and medium-sized dogs can start weaning after 35 days or more.
