Reason 1 for Corgi tail docking: Historical reasons

Reason 2 for docking Corgi’s tail: aesthetic reasons

Three reasons for corgi tail docking: breed standard

Nowadays, tail docking is also included in the corgi breed standard. In the American Kennel Club's breed standard, the following stipulations are made for the Corgi's tail: "The tail should be as short as possible, and the cross-section should not be jagged." In addition, it is also stipulated: "Some Corgis have tails that are raw. In this case, if their tail is short enough, it can be left untailed. The prescribed length is 2 inches (5.1 cm), but if the tail is stuck up, it may ruin their overall silhouette."< br />

Methods of Corgi tail docking

There are three methods for Corgi tail docking: surgical amputation, hemostatic forceps tail amputation, and rubber band amputation.
The simpler method is the rubber band cutting method. Prepare a relatively elastic rubber band, wipe and disinfect the base of the Corgi's tail to be docked with alcohol or iodine, and then tie it up with the rubber band to prevent blood from flowing and causing muscle necrosis, and finally break it off. Also pay attention to disinfection after finishing to avoid infection.
It is recommended that inexperienced owners go to a pet hospital to have their tail surgically docked by a professional doctor, and do not rush to try to dock their tail on their own.
