Symptoms of sprains in dogs

1. Sprains generally involve no trauma. The pain is very obvious and the dog will whine.
2. The dog limps when walking. The sprained side can get down to the ground, but the steps are very light or the sprained side cannot be lifted up and cannot use force.
3. There will be swelling on the sprained side of the dog, and the dog will dodge when pressed lightly.

Treatment of dog sprains

1. If a dog has a sprain, you can use a cold towel to compress it, which can reduce swelling and pain and promote vasoconstriction.
2. Do not use hot compresses or massage on your dog’s sprained area within 24 hours. The blood vessels in the sprained area may rupture. Hot compresses will cause the blood vessels to rupture again and prolong the recovery time.
3. Drugs that promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis can be sprayed externally, such as Yunnan Baiyao, etc. During the recovery period of a sprain, rest and avoid strenuous activities.

Symptoms of dog fractures

1. The dog’s fractured area will be deformed, both ends of the fracture will be displaced, and the affected limb will shrink. Stand up, bend or stretch in weird postures.
2. Dogs’ affected limbs often have symptoms such as bending or abnormal rotation, and friction sounds can be heard at the fracture site.
3. Symptoms such as swelling and bleeding will be seen on the external skin of the dog’s fracture site. The dog is not in good spirits, likes to lie down, and has poor appetite.
Note: If a dog is diagnosed with a fracture, he or she needs to go to the pet hospital to take X-rays.

Treatment of dog fractures

1. When bleeding is severe, the bleeding must be stopped in time. Use bandages, ropes, etc. to tie the wound to stop bleeding, and disinfect the affected area with iodine.
2. Do not make large movements when breaking a bone to prevent the sick dog from shifting the fracture end. Simply bandage it with cardboard and bandages and send it to the pet hospital.
3. Dogs should lie still and rest after fracture surgery, and wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent licking of the wound. Generally speaking, the splint can be removed in 60 days. During the recovery period, attention should be paid to supplementing the dog with calcium, vitamin AD, etc. to promote fracture healing.
