Generally, human medicines cannot be used when Bichon Frize has a cold, and if the cold is not taken care of well, it will often be accompanied by fever and other problems. So the editor below will share with you the treatment methods for Bichon Frize's cold.

Methods for treating colds in Bichon Frize:

 Symptoms

First, frequent runny nose, followed by sneezing and coughing. At this time, some sick dogs shed tears, and the conjunctiva is flushed and slightly swollen. The body temperature of sick dogs quickly rises, and the dog becomes depressed, has chills and shivers, loses appetite and even becomes extinct. The rectal temperature can exceed 40℃ when measured.

 Treatment

The main treatment principles are antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and anti-infection.

① Antipyretic and anti-inflammatory: The normal body temperature of dogs does not exceed 39℃. When the body temperature of cold dogs exceeds 40℃ and chills occur, antipyretic and analgesic drugs can be used. The more commonly used one is Diazepam, which is injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly with 0.5 to 2 ml depending on the size of the individual. Bupleurum injection can be used as traditional Chinese medicine, which has good curative effect. For sick dogs whose body temperature does not rise much, it is not necessary to inject antipyretic drugs. Oral human cold medicine can be used, and the dose is 1/4 to 1/2 of an adult. For sick dogs with excessive nasal discharge, falling head and sneezing, about 0.5 ml (5 mg) of chlorpheniramine can be injected subcutaneously. For dogs with rough breath sounds, vesicular sounds, or severe coughing, 2 to 5 mg of dexamethasone can be injected intramuscularly.

②To fight concurrent infections, penicillin is the first choice. 400,000 to 800,000 units are injected intramuscularly twice a day. Other antibacterial drugs such as kanamycin, cephalosporin, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, etc. can also be used. Severe cases should be treated with infusion. Penicillin, dexamethasone, and vitamin C can be added to 10% glucose solution for intravenous infusion.

 Prevention

First of all, the conditions of the kennels must be improved to prevent wind and rain. The floor of the kennel should be dry and bedding should be provided in cold weather. The second is to enhance the physical fitness of meat dogs. In addition to paying attention to the quality of feed, meat dogs must also be given appropriate exercise and a certain amount of sunlight exposure.
