How to cut the hair of a golden retriever? First, start from the hair behind the ears, close to the skin, and use thinning shears; trim the beard of the golden retriever from the root with small scissors, and use small scissors to carefully trim the lip line; the hair that grows between the fingers The hair should be straightened according to the direction marked in the picture. Place the tail close to the ankle joint, hold it with your thumb at the intersection with the joint, and modify it to the standard length.

 1. Ear trimming

Start with the hair behind the ears. Close to the skin, use thinning shears. After every 3 cuts, comb the hair and observe it, repeat several times. Note that the purpose of this operation is not to cut off all the hair, but to thin and remove messy hair to make the hair look straighter. Gently straighten the ears while operating.

 2. Facial trimming

Use small scissors to trim the golden retriever’s beard from the root. Use small scissors to carefully trim the lip line.

3. Trimming of limbs

The hair growing between the fingers should be straightened out in the direction marked in the picture.

Hold the dog's feet back so that the messy hair is completely exposed, including the hair between the fingers that you just smoothed out with your hands, and use scissors close to the foot pads to repair it. The trimmed hair on the soles of the feet should be on the same plane as the foot pads. Do not cut the hair between the toes, as this will make the soles of the feet appear splayed, which is very unsightly and does not meet the competition standards.

Hold the claws and use straight scissors to modify the periphery of each finger from bottom to top. As shown in the picture, the technique of modifying the outer edge of the foot is demonstrated.

Trim the hair upwards along the gaps between your fingers, and use thinning shears to cut off the emerging hair. Brush the hair down with a bristle brush or smooth it down with your hands. Place the dog on the grooming table for observation. A small amount of excess hair can also be pulled out by hand, but if there is too much hair, do not pull it out by hand.

4. Tail trimming

Hold the tail close to the ankle joint and hold it with your thumb where it meets the joint. This is the standard length you will trim the tail to. As shown in the picture, the ideal tail length should be from thumb down to meet the ankle joint.

5. Trimming of other parts

Thinning shears are also used on the neck, chin, and under the ears.

If there is too much hair on the shoulders or the shoulders appear too bloated, they should be trimmed. Carefully thin it in the direction shown by the arrow in the picture to make the shoulders and neck more coordinated. Several days of "pruning, watching, and pruning" are necessary.
