How do you judge whether a Labrador is pure or not? Labrador has clear outlines of all parts, well combined, well-proportioned, square shape, square head and short face, wide mouth, broad back of the head, clear head lines, and no cheeks Lots of flesh, clear skull lines, well defined under the eyes, cheeks not prominent, head slightly showing centerline; lips not square or drooping, forming a curve toward the throat.
1. Overall
The outline of each part is obvious, well combined, and the shape is well-proportioned, square, square head, short face, wide mouth, broad back of the head, and moderate stop. The head and front face are on parallel surfaces and approximately equal in length. The stop is moderate, and the eyebrows are slightly prominent, so that the head to the tip of the nose is not a complete straight line. The brow bone emphasizes the stop. The head has clear lines, and the cheeks do not have a lot of flesh. The bone lines of the head are clear, and the contours under the eyes are clear, but the cheeks are not prominent. The head shows a slight center line; the lips must not be square or droopy. But form a curve towards the throat.
2. Nose
The nose is broad and the nostrils are well developed. The nose will be black on yellow or black dogs and brown on chocolate dogs. Fading of the nose to a light shade is not a fault. Nose that is completely pink or that lacks any pigment is a disqualification.
3. Ears
The ears hang, moderately close to the head, and the position is rather back, slightly lower than the head; slightly above eye level. The ears should not be too large or heavy, but should be in proportion to the head and extend to the inside of the eyes when pulled forward.
4. Eyes
Sharp, friendly eyes show good temperament, and intelligence and alertness are characteristics of this breed. The eyes are of medium size, set widely apart, neither protruding nor deeply set. Black or yellow dogs have brown eyes, and chocolate dogs have brown or hazel eyes. Black or yellow eyes make the expression harsh and undesirable. Small eyes, eyes placed too close together, and round, protruding eyes are not typical of the breed. The eye rims are black in black or yellow Labrador Retrievers and brown in chocolate Labrador Retrievers. Lack of pigment in the eye circles is a disqualification.
5. Bone mass
The bone mass should be sufficient, depending on the size of the paws, the bones should be tight, and the muscles should be well developed. The front chest is larger.
6. Hair
The coat of the Labrador Retriever is distinctive. The coat is short, straight and very dense. When you touch it when you are young, it will feel very hard. Labradors come in three colors: black, yellow and chocolate. But if there is hair mixed with other colors, it is not pure. If there is a bunch of white on the black chest, it is disqualified.
