The anal glands of dogs are located at the four o'clock and eight o'clock directions on the inner sides of the anus. Whenever your dog poops, the glands release a strong-smelling liquid to mark it. If the anal glands are left untreated for a long time, odor will occur and adverse phenomena such as anal inflammation will occur. Therefore, it is recommended that owners express their dogs’ anal glands once a month. You should also observe whether there are any abnormalities around the dog's anus and whether the dog often rubs its butt against the ground after defecation.

What to do if the dog’s anal glands are inflamed:

1. Disinfect with iodophor first, then use a napkin to hold the dog’s anus and try to squeeze it first. After cleaning the anus with warm salt water, you can apply erythromycin ointment and anti-inflammatory ointment after the treatment.

2. Rinse or wipe with saline after defecation every day to avoid bacterial infection in the feces.

3. When there is no hard lump around the anus, it proves that the patient has fully recovered.
