Symptoms of canine rheumatism

Canine rheumatism is characterized by sudden onset of symptoms in dogs, local redness and swelling of the body, migratory and recurring attacks. Diagnosis can be made based on medical history and symptoms.
a) Muscle rheumatism:
1. It often occurs in the muscles of the dog’s shoulders, neck, back, waist and thighs. The affected dog's muscles are swollen and painful, and the muscles are stiff when touched, which can cause motor dysfunction and a stiff and inflexible gait. However, as the amount of exercise increases and the time prolongs, the symptoms are reduced or disappear.
2. Looking at the entire course of the disease, the affected area has the characteristics of migration.
3. The body temperature of sick dogs can increase by 1 to 1.5 degrees, and their breathing and pulse may also change slightly.
4. If the muscles of the whole body are rheumatism, the affected dogs will have stiff muscles all over the body, difficulty walking, and often lie on the ground.
b) Articular rheumatism:
1. It often occurs in the highly mobile joints of dogs, such as shoulder joints, elbow joints, hip joints, knee joints, etc.
2. The diseased joint capsule and surrounding tissues are edematous, the joint shape is swollen, and there is heat and pain when palpated.
3. The affected dog has difficulty getting up and lying down, and will walk when exercising, especially in the early morning or when it just stands up from lying on the ground. However, with the increase in the amount of exercise and the prolongation of time, the lameness symptoms can be reduced or disappeared.

Causes of rheumatism in dogs

1. The cause of rheumatism in dogs is still unclear. It is currently thought to be an autoimmune disease.
2. Wind and cold, dampness, coldness, rain, overwork, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tonsillitis, etc. are all causes of canine rheumatism.

Prevention and treatment measures for dog rheumatism

1. First, give the dog analgesia and anti-inflammation. Use 10 ml of 0.5% procaine hydrochloride solution, add 500,000 units of penicillin, and subcutaneously inject it into the affected limb once a day for 2 days. (You can use 0.5 ml of Harbin Essence Injection, intramuscularly in the affected limb, once a day, for 2 days. This medicine has certain toxicity, and must be used in strict accordance with the dosage instructions.)
2. Then give it to the sick dog Expelling wind and removing dampness. Use 20 ml of compound sodium salicylate injection, add 1 ml of dexamethasone, and inject it intravenously into the forelimb once a day for 3 days. At the same time, take metamizole orally, 2 tablets each time, once a day for 3 days.
3. In addition, strengthen the care of sick dogs. During the treatment period, the sick dog was put on the sports ground every morning and evening for 30 minutes each time. Keep the kennel dry, change the bedding frequently, and hang lights to add light and heat. Feed easily digestible food rich in protein and add a variety of vitamins.
