How to tell the difference between Pomeranian and long-haired Chihuahua breeds

Pomeranian and Chihuahua are one of our most common pet dogs and are small toy dogs. Although Pomeranians and Chihuahuas are both small in size, they look different and we can easily tell them apart. Let’s learn about the differences between Pomeranians and Chihuahuas.
Pomeranian
The Pomeranian originally originated in Germany. It is a compact, short-coated, and aristocratic dog. Pomeranian dogs generally weigh about 4-5 pounds and are about 18-20 cm tall at the shoulder. The entire head is balanced with the body, and the facial expression is very cute and sweet. The muzzle is relatively short, straight and refined, allowing the mouth to be opened freely without appearing rude.
The skull is close-set and slightly rounded, the small ears are erect and set high, and the eyes are dark, bright, medium-sized and almond-shaped. The neck is short and combined with the shoulders in a position that allows the head to be held high, the back is short and level, and the muscles of the shoulders and legs are moderately developed.
The hind legs and croup are well angled to the hindquarters. The croup is well placed behind the tail. The Pomeranian has a double coat with a soft and dense undercoat. The coat is long, straight, shiny and coarse in texture. The thick undercoat supports the outer coat and allows it to stand upright on the Pomeranian's body.
Chihuahua
Chihuahuas originate in Mexico. They are small in size, clever in character, and courageous. The shoulder height is about 15-23 cm, and the weight is 1-3 kg. The skull must be well developed and should be in the shape of a Western-style dome. The cheeks and zygomatic parts should be sloping with less flesh and large, erect ears that are slightly tilted back. The eyes should be large and round, not too protruding. The distance between the eyes should be slightly apart. The color should be dark and bright. Mainly, the bridge of the nose is straight and moderate in length, and the nose is small and slightly sharp.
Chihuahuas are divided into long-haired and short-haired. Short-haired Chihuahuas have short hair, while long-haired Chihuahuas have thicker and thicker hair. The coat of the short-haired Chihuahua should be soft, tight, shiny and covering the whole body; the coat of the long-haired species should be soft and straight, with long and curly hair, and the limbs and toes should be covered with hair.
