1. Tools required for sportswear
Beauty table, electric scissors, electric scissor heads (No. 15, No. 10), beauty scissors (7-inch straight scissors, curved scissors), wire brush or needle brush, beautician comb. Also includes: knot opener, toenail clippers, hemostatic forceps, styptic powder, hair dryer, absorbent water towel, beauty waterproof apron, pet shampoo, absorbent cotton, eye wash, ear-pulling powder, knot opening powder, knot removal knife.
2. Preparation before pruning
1. Brush management
Brushing can remove the existing hair knots on the poodle and check the skin condition. When brushing, you should first comb the bristles with a needle. The advantage of a needle comb is that it is not easy to break the hair. It is best to use a stainless steel or softer needle comb. The method of combing is to start from the feet, from bottom to top, from tail to head, and brush layer by layer in order. This can untie most of the knots. If there are dead knots that are difficult to untie, you can sprinkle some on the hair to untie them. Cream, use a knot-removing knife to comb out the knots.
2. Sort out
After finishing brushing, use a beauty comb (wide and narrow tooth comb) to comb. Use the wide-tooth side to comb first, so that you can untie the knot more deeply, but be careful to use appropriate force, otherwise it will easily break the hair and cause pain to the dog. After combing with a wide-toothed comb, comb again with a narrow-toothed comb. Until the coat is smooth and tangle-free.
3. Cleaning of ears;
To clean the ears, first pour an appropriate amount of ear hair powder into the ear hole, and then gently pierce the ear hole to make the ear hair powder fully contact with the ear hair and ear canal, so that the ear will become astringent and easier to pull out. The action should be fast and steady when pulling out. Sometimes the ear hole is very small and cannot be pulled out with fingers, so you can use ear hair pliers to complete it. Be sure to secure the dog's head securely using ear hair pliers. The next step is cleaning. First, use ear hair pliers to make a cotton swab, dip it in an appropriate amount of ear cleaning water, clean the dog's external auditory canal first, and then clean the deep parts that can be seen. It should be noted that whether you are plucking ear hair or cleaning the ear canal, you must do it in a place visible to the eyes.
4. Eye cleaning
Dropping some eye drops before taking a bath can prevent eye diseases. Fix the dog's head with one hand and drop eye drops with the other, and then gently massage the corners of the eyes.
5. Trim toenails
When trimming nails, follow the three-cut method and move quickly. Cut the nails into a short round shape, and then use a nail file to smooth the surface of the nails. If the nail is black and it is difficult to see the blood line, you can cut it bit by bit until the tender flesh is visible. If you are trimming your nailsIf there is bleeding during the process, press the toes firmly with your fingers to control the bleeding, and use hemostatic powder to hold the bleeding blood vessels for a few seconds to stop the bleeding.
6. Take a bath
Squeeze your anal glands before taking a bath. Wet the anus with water first. The skin will become soft and the dog will relax. Turn the dog's tail upward with your left hand to make the anus protrude. Place the thumb and index finger of your right hand next to the dog's anus, feel for two hard protrusions, and squeeze inward and upward with appropriate force until liquid spurts out. Then squeeze it again from top to bottom with your left thumb and index finger. After making sure there is no fluid, rinse the anus with warm water. When starting to take a bath, first plug the dog's ears with cotton to prevent water from entering the ear canal. Test the water temperature before taking a bath. The best bath water temperature is 35-45 degrees Celsius. Wet the limbs first, then the body, and finally wash the hair. Then choose a suitable shampoo according to the different hair types of the dog. Dilute the shampoo in proportion and pour it on the dog. Rub it into rich foam in the order of limbs → body → head and then rinse it with warm water. Dirty dogs can be washed more often. 1-2 times, wash and dry with an absorbent towel.
7. Drying
Dry immediately after bathing to avoid colds and skin diseases caused by moisture accumulation. VIPs cannot use a hair dryer and need to use a hair dryer to remove hair. Turn on the hair dryer and use a wire brush to dry the hair starting from the head. Pay attention to your gestures. The surface of the wire brush should be perpendicular to the skin rather than parallel, otherwise it will injure the skin and cause large areas of bleeding spots. When pulling hair, pull it layer by layer, in the order of head → body → limbs, and other parts that have not been haired should be covered with an absorbent towel to keep them relatively moist.
3. Group pruning method for poodle sportswear
1. Foot trimming
① Point the electric scissors (no. 15 blade for electric scissors) in the direction of the legs, start from the toenails and shave off the top and sides of the hair, trimming to the end of the feet. Do not go higher than the junction of the legs and feet, and do not expose the ankle joints. .
② Separate the toes with your hands and shave the hair between the toes without scratching the skin.
③ For pedicure bottom, use your thumb to separate the foot pads, shave all the hair on the soles of the feet from between the toes to the flesh pads.
④After the feet are trimmed, there should be no hair on the toenails and the bottom of the feet should be smooth.
⑤ Once your feet are shaved or your dog’s skin is scratched, immediately use canine anti-itch lotion, hemostatic powder or spray to reduce the stinging sensation on the skin.
2. Facial trimming
① First, draw a straight line at the corner of the eye, starting from the front of the ear to the outer corner of the eye, and shave off all the hair in front of the ear. (Use No. 15 blade)
② Hold the dog’s head cover with your hands, use your thumbs to tighten the skin at the corners of the eyes, and carefully shave the hair under the eyes, but do not touch the hair above the eyes.Avoid damaging the complete headgear.
③Continue to shave the hair on the cheeks and sides of the face.
④ To avoid shaving the corners of the lower lip, use your thumb to flatten the wrinkles there before shaving.
⑤ Press the entire lower jaw of the dog, shave off the remaining hair from the lips to the nose, and be careful to prevent the tongue from sticking out and being bruised.
⑥ Let the dog's head rest on the wrist (while wrapping your hands behind the dog's head), complete the trimming of the other side of the face.
⑦After shaving both sides of the face, shave an inverted "V" shape between the eyes. )
⑧ Lift the dog’s head, shave to 1-2CM below the throat joint and connect it to the front of both ears. The shaved part forms a “V” shape.
3. Tail trimming
① From the back of the dog, grab the dog’s tail with one hand and shave from about 2cm from the base of the tail until it joins the body. (Use No. 15 blade)
② Trim the tail root on the other side so that the shaved part is in an inverted "V" shape. The lower part of the tail is also shaved into a V shape, forming a diamond shape with the upper part. This will facilitate future trimming of the buttocks and cleaning of feces.
③Shave 1/4 of the hair on the tail, leaving 3/4 trimmed into a hair ball that looks natural in shape.
④ You can use curved shears or straight shears to complete the circular trimming starting from the bottom of the hair ball.
⑤Adjust the position of the hair ball according to the length of the tail.
4. Headgear trimming
① Start from the left side with curved scissors, and hold the dog’s mouth with your other hand to fix the head.
②Cut off all excess hair from the corners of the eyes to below the trimming line of the ears.
③Put the scissors flat against one side of the dog's head, and trim the side of the headgear vertically upward to remove the hair that protrudes from the cheekbones.
④Expand the dog’s auricles and trim all the hair around the ear holes.
⑤ Trim the back of the head according to the natural curvature of the base of the skull.
⑥ Trim the front headdress between the eyes, and the trimmed part should not be lower than the eyeline.
⑦ Trim the other side in the same way.
⑧ Trim the hair on the top of the headgear, leaving relatively more hair in the middle of the headgear, while the sides should be narrower.
⑨The fullness of the headgear depends on the texture of the dog's fur and personal preferences.
5. Trim the edges of the feet
① To make a round cuff, use a comb to comb the hair at the ankle vertically downward.
②Pick up the scissors and place them in a horizontal position, and completely cut off the hair below the trimming line and above the foot along the ankle.
③Put the fur outwardComb through and use curved shears to create a lovely round effect.
6. Leg trimming
① Trim the front legs into a cylindrical shape. Pay attention to trimming the hair on the inside of the front legs cleanly and connecting them naturally with the hair on the lower abdomen.
② The hind legs should maintain an appropriate degree of curvature. According to the natural curve of the body, the knee joints should be angled and the hocks of the hind feet should be angled at 45 degrees.
③The legs should be trimmed into smooth curves to achieve a balanced state.
7. Trunk trimming
① First set a flat surface on the back, and then trim an angle of 30 degrees from the horizontal thread starting from the upper part of the shaved rhombus.
② Extending from the back to the head, the hair gradually grows without obvious interruption in the middle until the appearance is smooth and beautiful.
③The sides and abdomen are trimmed naturally according to the curve of the body. Generally, it is trimmed from the back to the lower abdomen to give a round feeling.
④ The front chest should be shaped according to the V shape of the neck. Trim it into a circle starting from both sides of the V shape and match the hair of the forelimbs. However, do not leave too much connecting hair to avoid making the chest look too bloated.
⑤The hair from the forelimbs to the bottom of the hindquarters is gradually trimmed backwards to form a slope.
⑥The hair on the neck naturally connects with the hair on the chest.
8. Trimming of ear lines
Hold the scissors horizontally to the ear, turn it to 45 degrees and trim upward in a circular shape. It can be divided into three cuts. The first cut is close to the ear. The second cut is to close the ear and trim it. The third cut is to position the ear and connect it to the V-shaped part of the neck according to the trimming marks of the first two cuts. Then trim away excess hair. The same goes for the other side.
9. Partial pruning
4. View the overall effect and make partial trims
Poodles are the most decorated dog breeds among all dog breeds. Poodle outfits are the most complicated and also the dog breeds that most test the skills of pet groomers. Sportswear is just one of many outfits, and because of the differences in the dogs themselves, the poodles have to be trimmed. The effect is also slightly different. Because it is a pet outfit, some changes can be made based on the above. For example, dyeing, wearing some small accessories, etc. can make the poodle look cute and unique. The trimming of sportswear must be based on the specific situation of the dog and cannot be blindly rigid. If the dog itself has serious defects, you can relatively rely on trimming to cover up the defects.
