Supplies and nutritional supplements that must be prepared before delivering a pet dog

1. Disposable plastic gloves:
For reasons of hygiene and personal habits, in theory it is best to wear gloves to avoid infection of the mother dog. However, I personally think that if you are not used to wearing gloves, you should not wear them, because delivering a dog requires us to move quickly. If gloves hinder the speed, it is better not to wear them. Wash your hands with disinfectant soap and wipe them with rubbing alcohol to make the work easier.
2. Alcohol:
Used to disinfect hands and instruments. The scissors mentioned below require you to carefully disinfect the blade part with alcohol cotton.
3. Scissors:
Used to cut the umbilical cord of newborn puppies. When delivering a dog, after the puppy is separated from the mother's body with the umbilical cord and placenta, you need to use scissors to cut off the puppy's umbilical cord (retaining a length of 1-2 cm). You need to prepare a pair of sharp scissors. Cut the umbilical cord in one go. The scissors should not be too big and should be used smoothly to avoid hurting the dog's belly.
4. Iodine:
Used to disinfect the belly of puppies who have just had their umbilical cord cut. There will be bleeding when the umbilical cord is just cut. Don't be afraid, this is normal. (When delivering a dog, you can’t tremble at the sight of blood, otherwise something bad will happen.) After cutting the puppy’s umbilical cord, quickly apply iodine to disinfect and stop bleeding.
5. Cotton swab:
Used to apply iodine to the cut umbilical cord of puppies with iodine.
6. Cotton or silk thread:
It is used to tie the umbilical cord on the belly of the puppy. This item was copied from other materials when I was preparing for the dog delivery. It seems that in theory, it can tie the umbilical cord of the puppy. After cutting, you need to tie it with cotton or silk thread. However, I remember that when I delivered my dog, I didn’t tie the umbilical cord after cutting it. Although I prepared some things, the puppy kept moving and my hands were shaking, so I really couldn’t tie it on, so I gave up later. Facts have proved that it is not a big problem if it is not tied. If you think about it, after the mother dog bites off the umbilical cord, there is nothing like tying it with cotton thread.
7. Prepare some warm water for the female dog to drink:
When a dog gives birth to puppies, it usually lasts a long time, sometimes for several hours, and giving birth to puppies is also a physically demanding thing, so you need to add some water to the dog during the delivery. You need to prepare a bottle of warmWater, within your reach, give your dog some water between births. My Dangdang is fine with drinking milk, so I prepared milk for it. But then the little guy vomited again.
8. Thick Chicken Soup
Prepare thick chicken soup one or two days before the expected delivery date, and put the broth in a sealed box in the refrigerator to keep fresh. Once the amniotic water breaks, take it out and heat it immediately, and feed it to the female dog after giving birth to the second one to replenish her strength.
The above-mentioned supplies necessary for dog delivery are indispensable, both for the health of the dog and the safety of the baby. I hope every parent will pay attention to their pet dog.
