Rabies

Rabies is a fatal disease caused by a virus that attacks the central nervous system. All warm-blooded animals - including wild animals, dogs, cats and humans - are susceptible. Although the disease is uncommon, it is still prevalent in populations of wild animals - primarily raccoons, bats, foxes, and skunks - that may come into contact with domestic animals. Once an animal is infected with rabies, it cannot be cured. The incubation period for the virus can last from days to months. It is usually spread through contact with the saliva of infected animals. Once the virus travels through the animal's nervous system from the initial bite site to the brain and eventually to the salivary glands, the animal's saliva becomes infectious, and pets and people often become infected from the bite.

Symptoms of Rabies:

Clinical signs may be vague and difficult to recognize. Signs can progress through several stages, and not all infected animals show its symptoms.

Early signs: fever, acting nervous or agitated, hiding

Later signs: aggression, intense agitation, erratic behavior

End stage: muscle weakness and paralysis, coma, death

Rabid animals may appear unusually agitated or aggressive, or may be unable to walk. Seizures and drooling may also occur. Salivation may be caused by paralysis of the muscles in the throat, causing swallowing. Once symptoms appear, death usually occurs within ten days.

Treatment of rabies:

There is no effective treatment

Precautions:

Keep pets away from wild animals.

Make sure any other dogs or cats your pet comes in contact with are vaccinated.

Minimize contact with stray animals (do not feed stray animals with unknown vaccination status or leave them near your home and pets).

Many caring people often feed stray cats and dogs, please pay attention to safety before feeding
