When does Border Collie shed? Healthy little Border Collie will begin to shed their lanugo hair 3-4 months after birth. Generally, this moulting period will last for 3-5 months; adult Border Collie will shed its hair every year. During the alternation of spring, summer, autumn and winter, the animal will also moult, which lasts for about one or two months. During the moulting period, the owner should properly supplement the border sheep with protein, calcium and vitamins.
The hair on the newborn Border Collie’s body is relatively sparse, but from birth to three months, the lanugo hair will grow rapidly. When they are three months old, the Border Collie will begin to moult, and this stage usually lasts until six months. However, some border colts develop relatively slowly, and it is normal for them to still molt at eight months of age.
The adult Border Collie will also moult at the turn of spring and autumn. Normally, it occurs between February and April and between September and November. This is in order for the Border Collie to adapt. The moulting phenomenon that occurs due to weather conditions generally lasts for about a month.
Border collies need careful care from their owners when shedding their hair, otherwise the dog may shed more seriously. You should comb the Border Collie once a day in the morning and evening to remove dead hair that has fallen off the dog's body in a timely manner. Moreover, grooming can promote blood circulation in the dog's skin and promote healthy hair growth. In addition to regular grooming, you should also pay attention to supplementing calcium, protein and vitamins in the diet. The food should be light and easy to digest, which is more beneficial to the hair growth of Border Collie.
