How to tell whether a Corgi is authentic or not? You can tell from the fact that the Corgi’s body shape is generally 25 to 31 centimeters, weighs 10 to 12 kilograms, has a fox-shaped head, a wide skull, oval eyes, hard ears, medium size, and a long neck. The back is hard and level, the chest is deep, the waist is short, the limbs are short and bone-rich, short and natural, and the gait is free and smooth.

As long as the following characteristics are met, it means that the Corgi is a purebred dog.

Body shape

Height: Male Corgis are 11.0-12.2 inches (28.0-31.0 cm) tall at the shoulders, and female Corgis are 9.8-11.4 inches (25.0-29.0 cm) tall at the shoulders.

Weight range: Male Corgi weighs 22.0-26.5 pounds (10.0-12.0 kg), female Corgi weighs 22.0-24.3 pounds (10.0-11.0 kg)

Head

Including head, face, eyes, ears, nose, mouth, muzzle, jaw, teeth

Head: Fox-shaped in appearance, with an expression that appears intelligent and caring about the surrounding environment, without feeling timid. The skull is quite broad and flat between the ears, the forehead and nose are moderate, the cheeks are slightly rounded, and the front face is sharply contoured, making the muzzle gradually taper. The distance from the occipital bone to the center of the frontonasal frame is greater than the distance from the frontonasal frame to the tip of the nose. The ratio is 5 parts of the total length of the skull to 3 parts of the total length of the front face. Eyes: Eyes are oval, medium in size, neither round nor protruding, slightly slanted. The eyes are brown, in harmony with the color of the coat, and the eye rims are black. Black is the most suitable color. Black is full of expression, and true black eyes are the least popular color, as are yellow eyes and blue eyes. Ears: Hard, medium in size, tapering to rounded tips. The ears can move and respond sensitively to sounds. Draw straight lines from the tip of the nose through the eyes to the tips of the ears, forming a triangle that is close to an equilateral triangle. Bat ears, kitten ears, large floppy ears, floppy ears, ears that are set too high or too low are all undesirable ears. Button, rose or drop ears are serious faults. The nose is entirely black.

Torso

Including neck, chest, ribs, waist and back, front of body, skin

Neck: The neck is quite long, with enough length to make the whole body balanced. Slightly arched, clean, and blending well into the shoulders. A neck that is too short will give people a suffocating feeling, and a neck that is too long, too thin or ewe-like will affect the quality of the dog. Topline: The back is hard and level, with neither bulge nor depression in the croup. The intersection of the slightly denser neck coat with the slightly shorter body hair will create a slight depression behind the shoulders, which is allowed. Body: Ribs are well sprung, slightly oval, and of moderate length. Chest deep, hanging between forelegs. Being too low interferes with freedom of movement and should be punished. When viewed from above, the body tapers toward the waist. Waist: Short. Barrel chest, flat chest, lack of elasticity of ribs, too long and too round are not up to standard.

limbs

Including the forequarters, shoulders, upper limbs, pastern joints, pasterns, soles of feet, hindquarters, thighs, hocks, joints and hock nails.

Forequarters: The lower legs are short and as straight as possible, with the elbows parallel to the body. Sufficient bone mass. The elbows are close to the sides of the body, neither loose nor tight. The shoulders should be in a natural position, at a 90-degree angle to the upper arms. Hindquarters: Strong and flexible, stifles well angled. Short Legs. Sufficient bone mass. Viewed from behind, the soles of the feet are straight. Feet: Oval in shape, with strong toes, naturally arched and tight, the two middle toes are slightly longer, and the pads are strong. Naturally arched. Toenails are short.

tail

Tail: short, very natural. The tail should be as short as possible and docked. Occasionally, some puppies are born with docked tails, which is allowed. If the tail is not turned up too high and cannot flow into the dog's backline, it is okay if the length of the tail is less than 5 cm. The docked tail is short. The undocked tail is in a straight line with the topline, hanging naturally without bending into the back. Lift up and level with the backline when active, hang low when resting. A tail that is too high or too low is a fault.

Gait movement

The gait is free and smooth. The forelegs are extended freely, not carried too high, and are in harmony with the driving action of the hindquarters. Proper shoulder position, coupled with proper elbow movement, allows the dog to move forward with ease. Viewed from the front, the limbs are not on a parallel plane when walking, but are slightly drawn in to make up for the shortcomings of short legs and wide chest. The hind legs extend freely and are in line with the forelegs, allowing for continuous and powerful movement, with the hock neither in nor out. The movement of the claws is parallel to the movement route and cannot swing left or right, cross, or interfere with each other. Incorrect short movements, body swaying or high-leg walking, and a gait that is too compact or too open when walking back and forth are all incorrect gait. This shepherd dog must be agile and free in action and have stamina for work.
