How to raise a West German Shepherd

1. Valve core tail cutting method:
We need to prepare the following three things: a suitable pen tube, a valve core, and a pair of scissors, all of which are disinfected with iodine. The pen tube should be able to fit into the puppy's tail, and one end should be small.
First, cut the valve core into small sections of about 1 to 2 cm with scissors, open the valve core (you can use tweezers), and put the valve core on the pen tube from the thinner end of the pen tube.
Then, wipe and disinfect the root of the dog’s tail with alcohol or iodine, insert the dog’s tail into the pen tube, and put the pre-set pen tube at the position where the tail is to be docked. The valve core is rolled down and just fits on the puppy's tail, and the tail is done.
After that, rub some iodophor on the binding area every day for disinfection. If the method is used properly for about a week, because there is no blood circulation, the tail will naturally dry up and fall off, and the wound will be relatively small. Then the wound can be lightly disinfected. Yunnan Baiyao is an anti-hemostatic agent and has no hemostatic function (it is used to activate and restore cell tissue).
If there is no valve core, you can also use a rubber band. Use a rubber band to tie it to the position where the tail is to be docked. This requires force, because it will prevent blood circulation and cause muscle necrosis, so please try it yourself first to see how tight you need to tie it before you feel numb. It feels right. Don't be too loose, otherwise all your efforts will be wasted. All other steps are the same as the valve core method.
2. Surgical scissor removal method:
This method requires a little skill and courage. It requires surgical scissors (scalpel, or diagonal pliers from the hardware store), and must be disinfected with iodine. Hemostatic powder or Yunnan Baiyao (generally available in pet stores), thicken the hemostatic powder with water in advance and set aside.
First, wipe and disinfect the root of the dog's tail with alcohol or iodophor, and use a hemostat to clamp the dog's tail, which is the part you want to remove. Then clamp the hemostatic forceps (the hemostatic forceps have fixed buckles to hold them in place without loosening).
Then use surgical scissors to cut off the dog's tail at the point where it needs to be cut off (the lower part of the dog's tail clamped by the hemostat, near the tail end), and cut off the dog's excess tail.
After that, apply the prepared hemostatic powder to the wound. Do not release the hemostatic forceps at this time. After about 15 minutes, you can release the hemostatic forceps when you feel that the blood in the wound has been controlled by the hemostatic powder. Rub some iodophor on the docked tail area every day to disinfect it. Generally, the dog can recover in 7 to 10 days.
Both of the above methods should prevent the female dog from licking the puppy’s wounds or binding areas to avoid infection.
