1. Causes of dog drowning

Drowning is a common accident for dogs. Drowning can cause suffocation and hypoxia. Dog owners should immediately follow the methods below to provide first aid.

2. First aid for dog drowning

1. Immediately remove water, mud and dirt from the mouth and nasal cavity of the affected dog, wrap your fingers with gauze (handkerchief) and pull the dog's tongue out of the mouth to keep the respiratory tract open, and then droop the dog's head to pour water.

2. Artificial respiration should be performed immediately when breathing stops: The steps to perform artificial respiration on dogs: ① Make the dog lie flat on its side; ② Remove the dirt in the mouth that blocks the respiratory tract; ③ Press the ribs next to the shoulder blades with both hands position to squeeze the air out of the lungs; ④ Quickly release your hands. Repeat actions ③ and ④ repeatedly until the dog resumes spontaneous breathing.

3. You can also pat the dog's abdomen 1 or 2 times, then grab the hind limbs with your hands and swing them repeatedly about 10 times, then put the dog down and observe. If there is no response, repeat the above action.

4. When the heartbeat of a drowning dog stops, external chest heart massage should be performed first.
