Dog rhinitis symptoms

Dog rhinitis is divided into two types: acute and chronic. The symptoms of acute rhinitis include congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa, sneezing, shaking the head, rubbing the nose, and runny nose in one or both nostrils. Further, the nasal mucosa may also be swollen. , causing secretions to increase and block the nasal cavity. In severe cases, vomiting, tonsillitis, and pharyngitis may occur. Symptoms of chronic rhinitis include long-term nasal discharge, sometimes more and sometimes less, mostly mucus-purulent with blood streaks. In severe cases, mouth breathing, intermittent wheezing, and obvious snoring will occur.
1. Acute rhinitis
In the early stage of acute rhinitis, the dog's nasal mucosa will be flushed and swollen, and it will also sneeze frequently, shake its head frequently or scratch its nose with its front paws, and have runny nose from one or both nostrils. The nasal mucus that initially comes out is clear and serous, and then turns into purulent nasal mucus. After it dries, scabs will form around the nostrils. When the condition worsens, the dog's nasal mucosa will swell significantly, causing the nasal cavity to become very narrow, making it difficult for the dog to breathe, and the sound of nasal congestion can also be heard.
2. Chronic rhinitis
Chronic rhinitis will develop slowly, and dogs will have symptoms of long-term runny nose, sometimes more and sometimes less, mostly sticky pus. If inflammation is not treated in time, it may cause bone necrosis and tissue disintegration, so the dog's nasal mucus may be mixed with blood and accompanied by a foul smell. In addition, it may also be complicated by conjunctivitis and pharyngitis in dogs, causing symptoms such as red and swollen conjunctiva, tearing, difficulty swallowing, coughing, and swollen mandibular lymph nodes.
Note: Chronic rhinitis can easily cause dogs to suffocate or be complicated by some brain diseases, so attention must be paid to it.
