1. Cause

The most important factor is genetic factors. The etiology and pathogenesis of CHD are still unclear. Some people believe that CHD is a biomechanical disease, which is caused by the inconsistency between the rapid growth of the main pelvic muscle groups and the bones. This unbalanced force forces the hip joints to pull apart, which then stimulates a series of changes. The final manifestations are hip dysplasia and degenerative joint disease. Some people also think that spasm or shortening of the pectineal muscle causes the femoral head to exert an upward force on the acetabular rim, causing the acetabular rim to tilt upward.

2. Clinical symptoms

The pathological characteristics of coronary heart disease are discomfort between the femoral head and the acetabulum, small or increased acetabular cervical axis angle, and joint laxity . Due to joint laxity, excessive friction between the femoral head and the dorsal edge of the acetabulum doubles the force on the dorsal edge of the acetabulum, leading to wear of the dorsal edge of the acetabulum, necrosis of the femoral head cartilage, and deterioration of hyperplasia. Osteophytes on the acetabular rim. At the same time, synovial fluid in joints increases. In many cases, the hip joint is subluxated.

Clinical symptoms of CHD generally appear between the ages of 4 and 12 months, but a few dogs may appear between the ages of 12 and 36 months. Some dogs have CHD but do not show any symptoms for a short period of time. The clinical symptoms of CHD vary widely, from very mild discomfort to severe claudication. The main manifestations are:
(1) Prefers to lie down but is unwilling to exercise; especially unwilling to go up and down stairs
(2) Difficulty getting up after lying down
(3) Jumping when running
>(4) The hips twist violently when walking
(5) Pain during hip joint movement examination
(6) The hip joint is abnormally sensitive to palpation

3. Diagnosis

Dogs with the above symptoms, or dogs with high incidence of disease, should undergo hip joint examination. The current main means of diagnosing CHD are X-rays and clinical examination. Currently, the OFA standard and PINHIP evaluation are commonly used.

4. Treatment

There is no drug that can cure CDD in dogs. The only solution is surgery. Current surgical treatments include pectin myelination, pubic symphysis resection, tripelpeltotomy (TPO), femoral head resection and arthroplasty (FHE), and total hip replacement (TPO).
