How to deal with dog bite wounds

Washing: Wash all exposed wounds thoroughly with soapy water (or other weak alkaline cleaner) and clean water alternately.
Disinfection: After thorough washing, apply 2-3% iodine (iodophor) or 75% alcohol to the wound.
If the wound condition permits, suturing and bandaging should be avoided as much as possible.
For those with deep wounds and serious contamination, anti-tetanus treatment and antibiotics may be used as appropriate to control other infections.

If you are bitten by a dog, you need to be injected with rabies vaccine

The rabies vaccination plan currently approved for use in our country includes a simplified multi-part intramuscular injection plan (2-1-1 method) and standard intramuscular injection protocol (5-needle method)
2-1-1 method: On day 0 (the day of injection), inject 1 dose into the deltoid muscle of the left and right upper arms respectively (2 doses in total), One dose of vaccine is administered on the 7th day and 21st day respectively, and the full course of immunization is given 3 times for a total of 4 doses.
5-injection method: One dose of rabies vaccine will be administered on day 0 (the day of injection), 3, 7, 14, and 28 days, and the whole course of immunization will be 5 times for a total of 5 doses.

Adverse reactions after vaccination with rabies vaccine

Individual recipients may experience pain, erythema, edema, itching and induration at the injection site, accompanied by mild fever, chills, syncope, weakness, headache, joint pain, muscle Pain and other transient symptoms.
Very few patients experience allergic reactions such as rashes and urticaria.

Is it still useful to inject rabies vaccine after 24 hours?

In principle, the earlier the better, if more than 24 hours have passed, the vaccine can be injected as usual. For people who have been exposed for several days and months but have not been vaccinated against rabies for various reasons, as long as the vaccine is available, they should be vaccinated as soon as possible like newly exposed people, so that the vaccine can take effect before they become sick.
