The time before and after dogs are in estrus

The estrus cycle of most dogs lasts for 6-8 months, and the estrus cycle of some female dogs lasts for 12 months, which is also considered physiological. The estrus cycle is divided into proestrus, estrus, postestrus and interestrus (estrus).
The time from the beginning of blood discharge from the vagina to the acceptance of mating is proestrus, which lasts 7-13 days. The time when a female dog is ready for mating is the estrus period, which lasts from 3 to 21 days, with an average of about 9 days.
A dog’s estrus period is once every six months. If you miss the first time, you usually have to wait until six months later. When it starts to be in estrus, its vagina will be pink, and the blood will turn pale 11 to 12 days after the bleeding begins. This is the period of mating. Usually, there are two matings, about 48 hours apart.

Precautions when a dog gives birth

1. Ask a veterinarian to see whether the dog is pregnant. Around fifteen to sixteen days after successful mating, the dog's mammary glands harden; around twenty days, the abdomen becomes enlarged; around thirty days, the chest and abdominal cavity begin to swell; around forty days, the dog's weight increases, and The vagina reopened; at two months it was time to give birth.
During pregnancy, you should be careful not to let the bitch jump to high or low places, do not let it press the belly, do not exercise excessively, and avoid cold baths to prevent miscarriage.
2. When giving birth, the owner should prepare a clean delivery room and lay out some blankets or towels.
3. When a female dog is about to give birth to puppies, she does not eat. When she whines and has labor pains, the female dog will force the puppies to slip out of the birth canal. After the puppies are born, the mother dog will feed the puppies and bite off the umbilical cord. At this time, she should help tie the puppies' umbilical cord with a rope.
