The estrus period of dogs

1. The estrus period of dogs is actually commonly known as "dog trouble". The first time a female dog goes into heat is usually over 6 months old, and the seasonality is obvious, usually once in spring and autumn. A few female dogs only go into heat once a year, and some go into heat three times. The obvious characteristics of a female dog in heat are: the vulva is red and swollen and has bloody discharge.
2. The seasonality of male dogs’ estrus is not as obvious as that of female dogs. They often go into estrus due to the stimulation of external hormones secreted by female dogs in estrus. The characteristics of a male dog in estrus are following the female dog, sniffing and licking the female dog’s vagina, crawling on her back, and becoming aggressive.
3. Generally speaking, it takes 9 to 15 days (average 12 days) for a female dog to experience vaginal redness, swelling, and bloody discharge. After that, she will ovulate, and she can mate and become pregnant.

Dog mating time

Many friends think that dogs can mate as long as they have experienced early estrus. In fact, being sexually mature does not mean that you can mate and have children. Generally speaking, female dogs often have not yet reached physical maturity when they go into heat for the first time, and their body organs, including the birth canal, have not yet developed well. You can get pregnant by mating at this time, but the number of offspring will be small, and the chance of dystocia will increase, which will hinder physical development. Therefore, it is best not to mate during the first estrus.
The most appropriate time for mating is during the ovulation period of the female dog, when the vaginal bleeding of the female dog is about to end (about the 9th to 15th day). Generally, mating can be carried out on the 10th day.

Dog mating partners

Generally speaking, it is best to breed dogs with dogs of the same breed and with similar body shapes. However, inbreeding should be avoided; it is best to choose young and middle-aged males. It is best not to consider dogs or bitches after seven years old; dogs that are healthy and have no genetic diseases, and both dogs have no epilepsy, cryptorchidism, heart disease, deafness, cataracts, dental malocclusion, hernia, bone and joint diseases Or have severe skin disease. After breeding such dogs, the puppies will be of the best quality.

The mating process of dogs

If you have an experienced male or female dog, the mating process will be very fast. However, male and female dogs mating for the first time will waste a long time in contacting and climbing with each other, or even fail. Therefore, it is best to choose one of the parties who is experienced.
If there is really no other way, help is needed. Bring the female dog to a strange environment so that the female dog will be more docile. Then choose a quiet environment with as few people around as possible. You can choose land (or a place with carpets) to enhance stability. One of them fixes the female dog's head to prevent her from turning back or swinging, and first lets the male dog crawl on its back to mate. Generally, the male dog can mate successfully if the size is not much different. If still unsuccessful, you can observe whether the position of the female dog's vagina is too high or too low, and you can appropriately raise or lower the height of the female dog's hindquarters.
