Causes of gastritis in dogs

Symptoms of gastritis in dogs

1. Acute gastritis: increased body temperature, loss of appetite, vomiting, and basic symptoms of vomiting. At the beginning of the disease, chyme is vomited, which is a sticky bubble-like gastric juice, and then mixed with blood. The dog is thirsty and greedy to drink, but vomits when he drinks water. Depression, hunched back, sensitivity to touch and pressure on the abdomen, yellowish-white tongue coating, sunken eyeballs, decreased skin elasticity, and dehydration of the affected dog.
2. Chronic gastritis: manifested by intermittent vomiting unrelated to food intake, the vomitus is often mixed with a small amount of blood, loss of appetite, progressive weight loss, rough coat, mild anemia, and finally develops into malignant disease .

Canine gastritis treatment

1. Food-stopping therapy requires dogs with gastritis to stop eating for 24 hours and stop drinking water for 12 hours. Then feed easy-to-digest liquid food, such as warm milk, porridge, vegetable soup, etc. You should pay attention to eating small and frequent meals.
2. To expel toxic substances. For toxic gastritis, subcutaneously inject 2-10 mg of morphine hydrochloride or take 15-60 ml of castor oil orally to promote the excretion of toxic substances.
3. Intramuscular injection of 1 mg of metoclopramide per kilogram of body weight or oral administration of 12 tablets of metoclopramide. If severe vomiting leads to loss of water and electrolytes, compound sodium chloride solution, 5% glucose solution, 5% sodium bicarbonate solution, etc. can be injected intravenously. At the same time, pay attention to supplementing potassium ions, vitamin C, and vitamins.
4. Antibacterial and anti-inflammation For gastritis caused by secondary infectious diseases, antibiotics are commonly used to reduce inflammation. Commonly used antibiotics include gentamicin, kanamycin, penicillin, etc.
5. After the acute symptoms of stomach strengthening are controlled, oral administration of lactase, pepsin, amylase, tangerine peel tincture, bitter tincture, etc. can protect the gastric mucosa and increase appetite. For dogs with achlorhydria, 0.5-30 ml of dilute hydrochloric acid can be administered 2-3 times a day.
