As long as you follow the following methods, the wound will heal quickly without causing infection; If the wound is large and deep, you can follow the following procedures to stabilize the injury and then take it to the hospital for treatment. Pay attention to washing your hands before handling wounds, and it is best to wear disposable plastic gloves to ensure personal safety.
1. Shearing and disinfection. You can use any of the following methods for disinfection: rinse the wound with self-prepared disinfectant (applicable to wounds of all sizes); clean the wound with water and soap (only for small wounds); use cotton swabs or sterilized cotton balls dipped in yellow solution to clean the wound. Each cotton ball can only be applied once in one direction and should be replaced until the wound is clean (generally claw wounds). Brushing or rubbing the wound repeatedly can infect the wound.
2. Let the dog lie down and raise the injured limb. Cover the wound with a piece of sterilized dressing. Press the dressing with your hand to apply appropriate pressure to help stop bleeding. Usually less serious bleeding (such as accidental injury) can be stopped in about 20 seconds. If it is a scratch, since the blood is not flowing out but just seeping out, there is no need to raise the injured limb to stop the bleeding.
3. If no blood is found on the dressing after bandaging, it can be considered that the wound has basically stopped bleeding. At this time, just use tape to fix the dressing.
4. Treatment methods for bleeding in special parts:
①. Head. After disinfection, cover the area with a dressing and apply pressure to stop the bleeding, and then send it to a doctor for treatment.
②. Nosebleeds. Let the sick dog rest quietly first. For minor nosebleeds, keep the dog's head level or slightly raise its mouth and nose, and apply cold compresses to the forehead and bridge of the nose. The bleeding will usually stop in a few minutes. For persistent bleeding, 1:50000 epinephrine solution can be instilled into the nasal cavity or the nasal cavity can be filled with gauze strips soaked in hemostatic solution to stop bleeding. If necessary, use hemostatic drugs, such as intramuscular injection of hemostatic 5~15 mg/kg body weight; slow intravenous injection or subcutaneous or intramuscular injection of 0.1% epinephrine solution 0.3~0.5 ml, etc. are all effective.
③ When the bleeding does not stop and there are signs of anemia, 200-500 ml of 10% glucose solution, 100 mg of vitamin C, and 10 mg of vitamin K can be injected intravenously once, 2-3 times a day.
5. When the amount of bleeding is large and the wound bleeds in the form of a jet or bright red blood gushes out, immediately use clean fingers to press above the bleeding point (near the center point) to interrupt the blood flow, and raise or raise the bleeding limb. , to reduce the amount of bleeding. When using a tourniquet to stop bleeding, you should first put several layers of soft cloth under the tourniquet. Do not use the tourniquet on the middle 1/3 of the upper arm and under the armpit to avoid damaging the nerves.
