Measures to prevent dystocia in dogs

1. Provide reasonable nutrition to female dogs during pregnancy. Too much nutrition can make the fetus too large and cause dystocia. For dogs with a strong appetite, the food intake can be relatively controlled, especially after the 45th day of pregnancy, attention should be paid to adjusting the nutrition of the female dog.
2. Pregnant bitches should have an appropriate amount of exercise, which can enhance the bitch’s physique and increase her productivity when giving birth. Reduce the fear of bitches when giving birth. The female dog should enter the delivery room in advance before giving birth to familiarize her with the delivery environment and ensure that the delivery area is quiet.

Symptoms of dystocia in dogs

1. Past history of dystocia or reproductive tract obstruction, rectal cooling (down to 37°C) for 24 hours without giving birth;
2. Abdominal wall strength The contraction lasted for 30-60 minutes and the newborn fetus was not delivered;
3. No puppies were expelled for 1-2 hours after active delivery;

Care for dogs after dystocia

2. Dogs should pay attention to nutritional intake after dystocia. In addition to supplementing and repairing the consumption and trauma of childbirth, they also need to provide necessary nutritional sources for lactation to ensure milk secretion and health. Food should be nutritious and contain enough calories and water. You should eat more protein and soupy foods, and supplement vitamins and iron appropriately.
