Symptoms of prostatitis in dogs

Acute prostatitis

1. Increased body temperature, depression, and loss of appetite.
2. Walking slowly and cautiously due to pain. There were also symptoms of constipation and tenesmus.
3. Palpation of the rectum and abdomen reveals prostatic hypertrophy and tenderness. In cases of prostate abscess, there is a sense of fluctuation, and semen cannot be collected.
4. Dogs with prostate abscess may have difficulty urinating or anuria.

Chronic prostatitis

1. Chronic prostatitis in dogs rarely has obvious clinical symptoms.
2. The owner often comes to see a doctor when the dog urinates for the first time in the morning, or when he or she finds blood or pus around the dog's bed.
3. By palpating the rectum and abdomen, you can feel that the size of the prostate increases symmetrically or asymmetrically, without any pain. Depending on the duration of the disease, its texture ranges from hard to soft to fluctuating.
4. X-ray photography and B-ultrasound examination show an increase in prostate size. When there is a prostate abscess, localized fluid dark areas can be seen in B-ultrasound examination.
5. In the acute phase, leukocytosis increases in dogs. Bacterial culture of the exudate and semen can aid in diagnosis.

Causes of dog prostatitis

Dog prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate caused by bacterial infection. It is divided into two types: acute and chronic. Acute prostatitis also includes purulent prostatitis and prostate abscess.

How to deal with dog prostatitis

1. Empty the urine in the bladder first, massage the prostate through the rectum, collect prostate fluid for culture and conduct drug sensitivity tests to select antibiotics. At the same time, antipyretic, analgesic, laxative, urinary catheterization and other methods are used for symptomatic treatment.
2. For prostate abscess, if the above methods are ineffective, surgery should be performed to drain the pus and perform external fistula surgery.
3. Clinical experience has proven that neutering dogs can promote the recovery of prostatitis.
