Make sure your dog no longer pees in your home

If he continues to do so, you will never rid your home of the smell. If you haven't yet trained your dog on hygiene habits, you may consider making this a priority.
If your dog has grown up but still has problems excreting at home, experts suggest that you can extend the time your dog stays outside the house. When they are at home, place them with hardwood floors and absorbent pee pads. Every time you see your pet peeing, you should have the same reaction and scold them immediately.

Clean the source of urine odor

Remove bedding and other soiled items from the floor. Urine odors can come from pillows, carpets, or other items, and it's best to wash or throw them away to get rid of the odor. Wash affected clothing and linens with an enzyme cleaner. In addition to regular detergents, you can also use plenty of baking soda for laundry.
If you think urine stains have penetrated into the carpet pad, consider replacing the carpet. Because the padding in the carpet cannot be cleaned, rinsed, and dried, it will still smell of pet urine unless it is replaced with a new one.

Tools needed to remove dog urine odor

1. Buy a handheld black light (UV lamp). You can find them online or at some major pet stores. A black light allows you to spot old urine stains and pinpoint areas to work with.
2. Purchase enzyme cleaner. This type of cleaner is best used on new urine stains that haven't been cleaned yet, but can be used on all stains. You can buy these products in supermarkets, pet stores and online.
3. Buy baking soda. This is a great natural deodorizer for furniture.
4. You can buy or borrow a vacuum and water suction machine from others. If your carpet is stained by urine, a vacuum is the best way to get a deep clean.

Removing new urine stains

1. Use paper towels to absorb as much urine as possible. Try to treat the spot as soon as possible after your pet pees to reduce the amount of urine seeping into the carpet pad.
2. If urine is on the carpet, spray enzyme cleaner onto the urine area. Cover all urine areas as thoroughly as possible. Let the cleaner sit according to the directions on the package and allow the product to slowly neutralize the odor.
3. Spray clean water on the urine stain, and then use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the sewage. If you don't have a vacuum cleaner, use paper towels to absorb the waste water.

Remove old urine stains

1. Turn on the handheld black light. Take a few pieces of paper and mark the stained areas.
2. Turn off all the lights in your home. It's best to do this step at night so you can see the stain more easily.
3. When you see white urine stains under a black light, make a mark there. Turn the lights back on in the house and go back to the urine stains one by one to clean them and remove the odor.
4. Move furniture out of the way to gain access to all stains on walls and carpets. You can clean urine-covered furniture outside your home using a mixture of baking soda and water.
5. Spray enzyme cleaner on areas that have not been cleaned before. These are usually old stains that you can't find.
6. Spray a layer of distilled white vinegar on the cleaned area. This method is most effective when the dog no longer pees in the home, otherwise the strong ammonia smell may cause the dog to use these areas as a toilet again.
7. If the urine stain is on a white carpet or blanket, you can mix water and hydrogen peroxide (hydrogen peroxide) in a ratio of 2:1, and then spray it on the urine stain. Hydrogen peroxide can discolor colored carpets. So this method can only be used on white carpets.
8. Use paper towels to wipe dry the white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide mixture or enzyme cleaner. Use a vacuum cleaner to soak up any dirty water as much as possible.
9. Spray clean water to rinse the area. Rinse and absorb remaining stain and water with paper towels or a vacuum cleaner.
10. Sprinkle a layer of baking soda on the urine stain. Let the carpet sit for a few hours to dry.
11. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean up the baking soda. If any area still smells bad, you can repeat the above steps and continue to sprinkle more baking soda.
