4. The area around the vulva is often contaminated by secretions, causing dermatitis.
5. Primary vaginitis usually manifests as a large amount of purulent secretions continuing to flow out of the dog's vagina before sexual maturity. In secondary vaginitis, in addition to vaginal secretions, sick dogs often lick the vulva. , and have symptoms of frequent urination or oliguria.
6. Vaginal examination shows that the vaginal mucosa is congested and swollen, and other systemic symptoms of vulvitis and vaginitis are not obvious.

Causes of vulvar inflammation in dogs

1. Infections are mostly caused by vulvar trauma during childbirth, improper disinfection of hands or instruments during midwifery, and bacteria introduced by the tail.
2. Damage to the female dog’s vulvar mucosa during mating can also cause this disease.
3. Primary vaginitis is more common in certain large dogs before sexual maturity, such as German Shepherds, Boxers, etc.
4. Secondary vaginitis is more common in adult dogs. It is often caused by prolonged estrus, unclean mating, infection during delivery, and secondary infections of the uterus, bladder, urethra and vestibule.
5. Vaginitis is often complicated by vulvitis.

Methods for treating vulva inflammation in dogs

1. For vulvitis in female dogs, you can first clean the tail and vulva, and then apply anti-inflammatory ointment to the vulva after cleaning.
2. Vaginitis before sexual maturity does not require treatment and usually disappears on its own during the first estrus.
3. For vaginitis in adult dogs, bacterial infection should be eradicated. If necessary, systemic antibiotics can be used, but the results of drug susceptibility tests done by vaginal cultures should be used as the basis.
4. Systemic antibiotics and vaginal flushing should be continued until about 1 week after the vaginal discharge disappears.
