How to deal with foreign body pneumonia in dogs

First, the dog must expel the foreign body quickly to prevent the decay and decomposition of lung tissue, relieve dyspnea, and treat it symptomatically.
1. Eliminate foreign objects: Let the sick dog lie on its side and raise its hind legs to facilitate the coughing out of foreign objects. At the same time, 0.2 to 1 ml of 2% pilocarpine hydrochloride is injected subcutaneously to increase tracheal secretion and promote the rapid discharge of foreign bodies.
2. Oxygen inhalation: When the dog has high difficulty breathing, oxygen inhalation should be performed. Antibacterial treatment can be timely injection of penicillin, streptomycin, erythromycin, canamycin, gentamicin, tetracycline, or compound-sulfamethoxazole tablets.
3. Inject drugs into the trachea: 2 to 3 ml of 4% formaldehyde solution or 5% menthol liquid paraffin oil can be tried, 2 times a day, 4 times as a course of treatment.

Common causes of foreign body pneumonia in dogs

1. Dog swallowing disorders and forced feeding of medicine are the most common causes of foreign body pneumonia.
2. When a dog suffers from pharyngitis, pharyngeal paralysis, esophageal obstruction, and encephalitis with impaired consciousness, it is easy to accidentally swallow due to difficulty in swallowing, leading to foreign body pneumonia.
3. Foreign matter entering the lungs initially causes inflammation of the bronchi and pulmonary lobules, and then the condition worsens.
