Symptoms of tuberculosis in dogs

Dogs with tuberculosis often lack obvious clinical manifestations and characteristic symptoms. They just gradually lose weight, become weak, easily fatigued, and cough.
1. In intestinal tuberculosis, repeated diarrhea occurs and appetite is significantly reduced. Lymphatic tuberculosis is characterized by superficial lymph node enlargement.
2. When mesenteric lymph nodes become significantly swollen by tuberculosis, digestion can be seriously affected.
3. Skin tuberculosis in dogs mostly occurs in the larynx and neck. The appearance of the lesions is granulation tissue-like ulcers with irregular edges.

Causes of tuberculosis in dogs

1. Mycobacterium tuberculosis has three types: bovine, human and avian. Tuberculosis in dogs is mainly caused by human and bovine tuberculosis bacteria, and rarely by avian tuberculosis bacteria.
2. Dogs can be infected through the digestive tract and respiratory tract. Sick dogs can excrete pathogens along with sputum, feces, urine, and skin lesion secretions throughout the disease period. Therefore, it is a great threat to people.
3. Mycobacterium tuberculosis has strong resistance to the external environment, especially dry and wet cold tuberculosis, but weak resistance to high temperatures. It can be killed at 60 degrees Celsius in 30 minutes. Commonly used disinfectants take 4 hours to kill them. 70% alcohol, 10% bleach solution, sodium hypochlorite, etc. all have reliable disinfection effects.

Preventive measures for dog tuberculosis

1. Dogs that need treatment should be treated with anti-tuberculosis drugs under isolation conditions, such as 4~8 mg/kg body weight/time of isotoxin, daily Oral administration 2 to 3 times; Rifampicin 10 to 20 mg/kg body weight/time, 2 to 3 times a day.
2. Breeding dog breeding farms and families raising toy dogs should undergo regular tuberculosis quarantine, and dogs with open tuberculosis should be eliminated immediately. Tuberculin-positive dogs, except for a few rare breeds, should also be eliminated in time and must not be mixed with healthy dogs.
3. Strict disinfection must be carried out on kennels and areas where dogs frequently move. It is strictly prohibited for tuberculosis patients to feed and manage dogs.
