Due to the thin intestinal cavity of puppies, the relatively large number of parasites and their large size can cause loss of appetite, weight loss, growth retardation, constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and increased abdominal girth. Some puppies may develop small intestinal intussusception or anal prolapse. Severe infection can lead to severe complications and death. In addition, parasitic infections in adult dogs are generally invisible, so even if no parasites are found in the feces, they should be dewormed on time.

Dog deworming time

Puppies should be checked once a month, and adult dogs should be dewormed every three months. Puppies should be dewormed for the first time 20 to 30 days after birth. Mainly for repelling nematodes and surface parasites, there are many drugs available, which are available in various pet hospitals, clinics or pet stores. Adult dogs should generally be dewormed once a quarter, and any commonly used ones, imported or domestic, are OK. When deworming, it should be noted that the dose of the drug must be appropriate and cannot be too large or too small. Too large a dose may easily cause poisoning, while too small a dose cannot achieve the purpose of deworming. In addition, if there are many dogs at home, it is best to take deworming medicine in batches. This will be relatively safer.

How to deworm a dog correctly

1. First deworming: The first deworming can be carried out starting from 25 days after birth.

2. Deworming method: Use deworming medicine before immunization. If parasites are discharged for 2 consecutive days, deworming can be repeated on the 7th day, and deworming once a month for the next 6 months. After six months of age, you can deworm every three months.

3. Heartworm removal: For puppies over 6 weeks old, once a month for the first 3 months and once every 2 months for the later period.

4. Toxoplasma gondii removal: once every 3 months.
