The biggest problem facing the base is funding. The training cost of each guide dog is 120,000 to 150,000 yuan, which includes the salary, dog food, medicine, office and travel expenses of the 21 staff at the base. The base's annual expenditure is more than 1.3 million yuan.

However, because it is a public welfare organization, the base's income is very limited, and it mainly relies on annual donations ranging from hundreds of thousands to one million yuan, as well as government subsidies. For the first time, Dalian City provided a one-time financial subsidy to the base, totaling 960,000 yuan, and promised that "if a guide dog is successfully trained, a subsidy of 60,000 yuan will be given."

In addition, the lack of relevant regulations for many years has made it difficult for domestic guide dogs to ride in cars and enter doors, making it difficult to provide comprehensive assistance to blind people.

What breeds of guide dogs are there? There are mainly three breeds of guide dogs:

1. Labrador Retriever

It was originally a retrieval hound. Nowadays, it is mostly used as a guide dog and a pet dog. It is very friendly to children or babies. It ranks fourth in the world in terms of dog breed IQ.

3. German Shepherd

The German Shepherd Dog is also commonly known as the German Wolfdog. This breed is said to originate from Germany. The only thing that can be confirmed is that it was born in 1880.This dog has been fixed throughout Germany and used as a shepherd dog. Agile and suitable for action-oriented work environment, often deployed on various tasks. The life of a guide dog

The first stage: the fostering period

45 days after the puppies are born, they are sent to the homes of caring volunteers for fostering, so that the puppies can adapt to family life and society. At the same time, learn how to get along with people and let puppies know that humans are good friends they can trust. During this stage, puppies should be constantly exposed to new things, learn simple obedience commands, and gradually accept social training.

Second stage: training period

After the puppies are fostered until they are 12-14 months old, the puppies will be returned to the base for 6 months of professional skills training. Visually impaired people undergo 3-4 weeks of joint training.

The third phase: service period

Guide dogs that have passed the training will be delivered to suitable visually impaired people free of charge, with a service period of 8-10 years.
The fourth stage: retirement period
After the service period, the guide dogs will be sent to loving volunteer families or returned to the base for retirement.
