It is most comfortable to hold the dog according to its condition

① Lift the dog under special circumstances: when the dog is injured or unable to move by itself, dogs weighing more than 18kg need to find another person to come help. One person is at the dog's head, with one hand under the dog's neck and the other under the chest. The other person puts one hand under the dog's belly and the other hand around the hip, and then both people pick up the dog at the same time.
② For pregnant dogs whose abdomen will be obviously bulging, avoid hugging the abdominal area and pick up the dog from the buttocks and neck or chest. If your dog is suspected of having a back injury, lift the dog from the neck and under the hips and keep the back level and straight.

It is most comfortable to hold a dog according to its size

① Small dogs: The correct way to hold a puppy is to hold both hands together like a child, with one hand supporting the puppy's chest. Then the other hand cupped his ass.
When holding the dog's chest, spread your fingers apart and clamp the dog tightly with both arms. Let your dog rest on your shoulder and it will feel warm and secure.

②Medium-sized dogs: When hugging, you need to bend one arm first, then let the dog sit on the arm, and then wrap the other arm around it to hold the dog firmly and let it feel As long as you are safe and comfortable, you can.

③ Large dogs: If you must hug a large dog, do not hold its abdomen when hugging it. Let the four legs hang in the air, as it will feel very uneasy. We can wrap our arms around it, hug its four legs, support its thighs, prevent the dog from struggling excessively, and then pick it up.

Precautions when holding a dog

1. Remember to bend your knees to get you closer to the dog’s height. Don't bend down to pick up your dog. Most dogs are afraid of people who bend down. Lift the dog with both legs upright to prevent back injuries. Wrap your arms around your dog to keep him in place.

2. Pick up the dog when it is relaxed. Try to avoid picking up your dog when he's bouncing around. You may need to train your dog to be quiet.
Use a towel or leash. If you must pick up a bouncing dog, use a short leash to keep it under control. Or you can cover the dog's head with a towel and hold the dog's limbs through the towel.

3. Do not pull the dog’s forelimbs: Holding the dog in this way will put pressure on the muscles of the dog’s front legs and spine, which may cause ligament tears or even dislocation of the shoulders and elbows. Especially for older dogs, it can be quite painful to pick them up in this way.

4. Do not lift the dog by the back of the neck: During the puppy stage, dog mothers will use their mouths to lift the puppies by the back of the neck. Although this action can temporarily control the dog, if this action lasts for a long time, the dog will feel uncomfortable and will also produce tension.

5. Do not grab the dog’s collar orTail: Pulling on the collar while lifting the dog may suffocate them due to the pulling force. Doing so can also damage important organs in the dog's neck, including the throat and trachea.
The act of pulling the tail may cause damage to the dog's nerves and muscles. In severe cases, it will cause the tail to lose function, stop wagging, and even affect the dog's ability to urinate and defecate on its own.

6. You should not easily scratch the skin of a puppy's neck. This kind of scratching method is only suitable for a very short period of time to prevent the dog from resisting. It can easily cause suffocation and vomiting for a long time.
