Bathe your dog

Bathing your dog regularly with warm water, mild dish soap or dog-specific shampoo will kill most of the fleas on your dog. This method can resolve mild to moderate flea problems. If there are too many fleas, it may not be effective. Use only mild dish soap without added colors or fragrances, and choose a type suitable for sensitive skin. If your dog reacts adversely to soap, stop immediately. After washing, use a canine-specific conditioner to prevent the hair from drying out. Just give your dog a bath with soap once a week. Doing it too often (especially if dish soap is used) can dry out and damage your dog's skin. The soap will stick to the fleas and get them off the dog's body. In addition, soap can damage the flea's cell membrane, removing their protective layer. The fleas can no longer retain water and soon die of dehydration.

Use a special lice removal comb to comb your dog

You can buy a special lice removal comb, or you can use a comb with very small teeth. A flea comb can comb fleas directly from your dog's hair. Comb from top to bottom. When combing, the comb must touch the dog's skin. If you only comb the dog's hair and ignore the skin, some fleas will still remain afterwards. Immediately after combing, soak the comb in warm, soapy water. Soapy water can kill fleas on your comb.

Use lemon juice to repel fleas

Apply diluted lemon juice to your dog’s fur to kill fleas. Use lemon juice with caution to prevent your dog's skin from becoming too dry. Mix equal parts lemon juice and warm water in a shallow bowl. You can also cut a lemon into 4 pieces and put them in boiling water. Soak for 8 hours or overnight, then strain the lemon juice into a bowl. Dip your dog's hairbrush or comb in the lemon juice and comb your dog's coat. Once the hair comes into contact with the hairbrush, it will be coated with a layer of lemon juice. Be sure to comb your hair thoroughly, re-soaking your hairbrush in the lemon juice each time. Repeat this process once a day for 3 days.

Treat fleas with apple cider vinegar

You can apply apple cider vinegar to your dog. Mix equal parts apple cider vinegar and warm water in a spray bottle and spray onto your dog's coat, especially in areas where fleas often hang out, such as behind the ears, the base of the tail, and behind the legs. If your dog's skin suddenly becomes very dry or you suspect your dog is having an adverse reaction to apple cider vinegar, stop using this method immediately.

Beer yeast

Beer yeast is a natural preventive agent that can replace some irritating chemical reagents. The evidence on its effectiveness is mixed, but it appears that active yeast is effective at reducing flea populations. Add brewer's yeast flakes to your dog's food once a day or every 2 days. The specific dosage depends on the age and size of the dog, you can consult your veterinarian. Do not decide on dosage without your veterinarian’s approval. Brewer's yeast penetrates your dog's skin and eventually comes out of the pores. Your dog's coat will be less attractive to fleas, effectively repelling them.

Prepare rosemary flea lotion

This method has not been scientifically proven, but there is some anecdotal evidence that it may be effective in repelling fleas. Let the dog soak in water containing rosemary and then let it air dry. Soak 500ml fresh rosemary branches in boiling water for 30 minutes. There should be enough water to completely cover the rosemary. Strain the cooking water and discard the branches. Pour 4 liters of warm water into the rosemary water. If the dog is smaller, the amount of water can be reduced. Let the rosemary water cool down slightly. Make sure it is warm, but not so hot that it burns your pet. Pour the water over your dog, wet it thoroughly, and let it air dry.

Use lavender essential oil

Although not scientifically proven, some anecdotal evidence suggests it may be effective in repelling fleas. Just apply a few drops of lavender essential oil to a few key areas and it will work. Bathe your dog as usual with warm water and soap, then towel dry. Apply a few drops of lavender essential oil to the base of the tail and the nape of the neck, and gently massage with your fingers to work the essential oil into your dog's fur.
