A healthy and normal Chihuahua has a gestation cycle of about 60 days. Some time before delivery, there will be signs of labor. At this stage, it’s time to start paying attention. You should pay close attention to the behavior of your Chihuahua every day and prepare in advance for the dog to give birth.
1. The mood begins to become unstable, loss of appetite, restlessness, looking for places, circling, and scratching the floor.
2. The Chihuahua’s urination frequency will increase significantly, and its body temperature will drop before giving birth. Generally, starting from the 58th day, the Chihuahua’s temperature needs to be measured three times a day. Under normal circumstances, the Chihuahua's body temperature is around 38 degrees Celsius. At this time, its body temperature may reach 37 degrees.
3. In the 24-36 hours before giving birth, the Chihuahua's body will also undergo obvious changes. Its nipples can squeeze out a small amount of fluid or colostrum. The labia gradually become soft and congested and swollen, the folds on the labia skin flattened, and the skin became slightly reddened.
4. The closer the delivery is, the stronger the Chihuahua’s pain will be. Its vaginal mucosa will become flushed, its pelvic ligaments will become soft and loose, and its buttock muscles will collapse significantly.
Finally, when mucus comes out of your Chihuahua's vagina, it's a sign that labor is about to begin.
