Make sure the dog is relaxed and comfortable. If he has never had his nails trimmed (such as a young puppy), interact with him several times a day, or reward him with small treats, and show him what will be used on him. Nail clippers to avoid your dog’s fear of unfamiliar things.

 2. Tools

Professional pet nail clippers or larger scissors, files, styptic powder or starch.

 3. Trim nails

Use the palm of your hand to firmly and gently grasp your dog's feet from the ankles, keeping your hands in the same direction as his paws and away from the dog.

Remember not to try to scratch his paws through the pads, as even a very cooperative dog will be ticklish and keep pulling away.

To secure the nails, gently place your fingers under his paws and use your thumbs to hold the nails being trimmed from above.

If your dog’s nails are white, clear, or light-colored, you will have a smoother process because you can more easily see the sensitive area inside the center of the nail, which will look like a small pink or red blood vessels. If, unfortunately, your dog's toenails are black or dark, you'll need to be extra careful because you can't see his sensitive areas.

Sensitive areas refer to blood vessels and areas where nerve endings gather. Your dog will be very, very unhappy if you accidentally cut his sensitive area, so this should definitely be avoided.

Every time you cut your nails, the sensitive area will recede a little. This is very wise if your dog has black clipped nails.

After pruning, file it down with a file.
