The droopy lips are square, the throat has obvious fat, the neck is long, the eyes are slightly sunken, and the ears are long and pulled forward to the tip of the nose. The Basset has a deep chest, a prominent sternum, thick paws, a shoulder height of no more than 14 inches, and a short, hard coat.

Head

The Basset Hound’s head is large and well proportioned.

The sides are flat, without cheeks or protruding cheeks. Viewed from the side, the outlines of both skull and muzzle are straight and parallel to each other, with a moderately pronounced stop.

Loose skin covers the entire head, and when the head is downward, there are obvious wrinkles on the eyebrows.

The muzzle is deep and heavy, neither long nor slender. The nose is fully pigmented and dark black, preferably a pure black nose, and the nostrils are wide and open.

Body

The Basset Hound's chest is deep and round, with the sternum protruding clearly past the forelegs.
