How to choose Corgi

(1) Look at the coat color
The coat color of Corgis is mainly two-color and three-color. The back is mostly yellow or black, and the color on the back is darker and gradually changes to light or white around it.
1. Two-color Corgi
Most of the two colors are yellow and white. According to the depth of the coat and the main color of the head, it will be further subdivided into light yellowish brown white, yellowish white, dark yellowish white, etc.
2. Three-color Corgi
Tri-color Corgis are mostly black, yellow and white, and can be further divided into black-headed tri-colors and yellow-headed tri-colors.
3. White distribution
Regardless of whether it is a two-color Corgi or a three-color Corgi, the color on the back can only be one and cannot have different colors (except for Blue Meteor). Blue merle (a mixture of black, gray, and marble is blue merle) with brown or spots is acceptable.
Tongtian (nose line): refers to the white strip in the center of the Corgi's head, preferably in the middle, straight and of moderate width. It’s not particularly good if it’s too wide, too thin, or if there’s a connection in the middle.
Neck gaiter: The white fur that appears around the neck is usually called a gaiter. A good scarf runs through the neck and is evenly distributed, but it can only be distributed on the neck and shoulders. If the white hair on the chest exceeds the shoulders, it will be disqualified. The scarf is optional and not very important.
White limbs: Corgi’s four feet are white, the white of the front feet does not cover the shoulder joints, and the white of the hind feet does not cover the knee joints. If the white of the hind foot is above the knee, the athlete will be disqualified.
Overall: Corgi has white distribution on its legs, chest, muzzle, lower body, tip of tail, and head. The white color of the head must not be dominant and must not surround the eyes.
4. Disqualification
Anyone whose body is predominantly white is disqualified.
A variety of coat colors on the back are messy and inconsistent. Any color other than the allowed colors of yellow, sable, light yellow, black, and tawny will also be disqualified.
Long hair, fluffy hair, cryptorchidism, and obvious white hair on the ears will be disqualified.
However, the lanugo hair of newborn Corgis will appear gray, which is normal.
(2) Look at the appearance
Now that you know how to tell the color of coat, you might as well take a look at some tips on appearance.
1.Head
The shape and appearance of the Corgi's head resemble that of a fox. The head cover is large and flat but not very round. The muzzle is higher than the head, the tip is thin, the forehead is not protruding, and the tip of the nose is black. Dental scissor or pincer bite.
2. Eyes
Eyes are oval in shape, ranging from medium to slightly large, not prominent, with dark rims, clear corners, and coordinated with the color of the coat.
Blue eyes (including part of the eye being blue), or one eye being blue and the other eye being dark black, are allowed on blue merle dogs, while dogs of other colors are disqualified. .
3. Ears
Gradually narrow to a rounded ear tip, and the auricle is very strong. The ears are moderately broad at the base and erect. Draw straight lines from the tip of the nose through the eyes to the tips of the ears, forming a triangle that is close to an equilateral triangle. Small or pointed ears are a serious fault. Drop ears are a disqualification.
4.Rhinoscopy
The nose is black or brown, except for blue merle corgis. It is best for Lan Yun dogs to have black noses, but butterfly noses are also acceptable. Corgis of other colors will be disqualified if their noses are not black.
5. Back
The back is relatively straight, with no obvious depression or bulge
6.Tail
The tail position is relatively low compared to the body.
A high tail is a serious fault.
Corgi's gait is relatively stable, lively and brisk, showing a leisurely and contented look. If there are cryptorchidism on both sides, large and droopy ears, and both the front and back are slender and thin, it does not meet the appearance of the dog and should not be selected. Dogs should be selected that are agile in movement, energetic, strong and flexible in body, compact in stature, and elegant in posture when standing.
After the transaction is completed, the seller should ask for the dog’s pedigree certificate, the transfer certificate signed by both parties, and other certificates.
In fact, for a Corgi lover, when choosing, they usually don’t look at whether the appearance meets the standards, but more about their eyesight. When fate comes, the feeling of looking at a Corgi will be different, and then I took him home.
