Why do cats like to sleep?

Age determines sleep time

Cats usually spend two-thirds of their time sleeping. The average daily sleep time of adult cats is 12 to 15 hours, and the average daily sleep time of kittens is about 20 hours. Cats’ sleep varies with age. Kittens sleep the most because they need sleep to promote growth; adult cats sleep less than kittens, and they spend some time playing; old cats need more time to sleep, and their body functions are no longer active, so they want to sleep every day .

First-time cat owners may be surprised at how long the cat sleeps, especially when it takes almost an entire day to sleep. But don't worry, as long as the cat wakes up and has a great time.

Genetic vigilance

Although cats are so gentle to their excrement collectors, they still inherit some "cat ancestors" in their bones. Therefore, they are much more wild than dogs. In the past, cats were always in close proximity to danger because they lived in the wild. In order to protect themselves (or hunt), they dare not sleep deeply and can only stay awake when there is movement. This indirectly extends their sleep time.

Cats are carnivores

Cats are true carnivores. Although they eat some vegetables and fruits after living with the manure-shoveling officials, they are carnivores at heart. If cats want to eat meat, they have to keep hunting. After all, meat doesn't stay put like plants. Therefore, they will always be ready to catch prey to fill their stomachs. Sleeping helps conserve energy, which is then used when catching prey. Scooping officials do not believe the cat did not trust the safety of the home. It's just their habit. They simply don't trust the officials.

Work and rest schedules are different from humans

The word "night owl" is a good way to describe cats. They like to be active at night and sleep during the day. The human habit is to work during the day and sleep at night. So when two creatures with diametrically opposed working and resting schedules meet, it's bound to feel like they've been sleeping so long. In fact, cats are not that active all night long. Their activity time is mainly concentrated in the morning and evening, which are the two periods when the manure shoveling officials are sleepy. If they wake up, they will definitely be uncomfortable.

Of course, cats sleeping too long has nothing to do with disease. If you find that your cat's sleep time is significantly different from usual, or if your cat is still tired after sleeping, it may be sick.
