What is cat-scratch disease?

Cat-scratch disease is caused by Bartonella henselae through cat scratches and bites. Infectious diseases caused by the human body have variable clinical manifestations, but are mainly characterized by local skin lesions and lymph node enlargement in the drainage area, and the course of the disease is self-limiting.

Causes and common sites of onset

Main causes:

Bartonella henselae through cat scratches , caused by invading the human body after being bitten.

Bartonella henselae exists in the oropharynx of cats, and fleas are the vector of transmission in cats. It is transferred from humans to humans through scratches and bites from cats or close contact between humans and cats, causing human infection.

Symptoms and clinical manifestations

Main symptoms:

Erythematous papules, fever, fatigue; anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain wait.

Clinical manifestations:

They are diverse, but most cases are mild.

1. Primary skin lesions: One to several erythematous papules appear locally after being scratched or bitten by a cat. The pain is not significant and can be ignored because the symptoms are mild.

2. Local lymph node enlargement: 1 to 2 weeks after scratch infection, lymph nodes in the drainage area appear swollen. Swelling of lymph nodes usually subsides on its own within 2 to 4 months, and rarely lasts for several months; nearby and even systemic lymph nodes may also be swollen.

3. Systemic symptoms: Most of them have mild fever and fatigue; gastrointestinal symptoms such as anorexia, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain accompanied by weight loss; headache, splenomegaly, sore throat, and conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis accompanied by preauricular lymphadenopathy is one of the important features of cat-scratch disease.

4. Rare manifestations and complications Rare clinical manifestations and complications include encephalopathy, chronic severe organ damage, arthropathy, etc.

How to deal with cat-scratch disease?

Cat-scratch disease is more common in children and young people. The disease is mostly self-limiting and usually heals within 2 to 4 months. Treatment is symptomatic.Law is the main thing.
