The main way to distinguish whether a cat has ascites or is pregnant is to observe the cat’s nipples. If the cat is pregnant, in addition to an increase in abdominal girth, the cat's nipples will also become enlarged and pink. It is recommended that when cat owners find that their cat’s abdomen is enlarged, they should distinguish whether it is pregnancy or ascites, take corresponding measures, and take the cat to the hospital for a comprehensive examination.

Characteristics of cat pregnancy:

1. The female cat’s estrus characteristics will slowly disappear about 3 days after mating. If mating is not successful, the cat will still have symptoms of estrus.

2. Around the 20th day of pregnancy, the color of the nipples will gradually turn pink and the breasts will enlarge. After three weeks of pregnancy, the breeder can slowly turn the cat over and carefully observe the cat’s nipples.

3. Pregnant female cats do not like to exercise, move cautiously, sleep longer, and like to sleep with their bodies stretched out. Cats in daily life prefer to lie still and do not want to move, and they do not want to play with their owners or keepers.

4. The female cat’s vulva will become enlarged and red in color, and the uterus will compress the bladder, causing frequent urination.

5. The abdomen begins to increase. At this time, you should be able to feel the fetal activity by touching the cat's abdomen with your hand, and you can hear the fetal heartbeat with a stethoscope.
