Male cats need to be neutered. Male cats will go into estrus at a certain period regardless of whether there is a female cat around them, and they will feel very uncomfortable during the estrus period. Neutering a male cat can not only make the cat's personality gentler, but also prevent the cat from suffering from reproductive system diseases. Male cats begin to mature sexually when they are six to eight months old, and this is the best time for neutering.
Precautions for cat sterilization:
1. Try to dim the light in the house. Cats in the post-operative anesthesia recovery period are sensitive to light, so you can choose to dim the light. Or provide shading material on the top of the cat's nest to reduce the light.
2. Do not perform sterilization surgery on cats during their estrus period.
3. It will take a while after the sterilization operation to drink water and eat. Generally, male cats are allowed to drink water and eat for about 4 hours and female cats are about 6 hours. It can be extended appropriately according to the actual situation.
4. As long as topical medicine is applied and the wound is not healed, Elizabethan rings must be worn. After sterilization, both male and female cats must wear Elizabethan rings, but the length of wearing them varies.
5. Preoperative examination. The doctor will generally conduct a physical examination of the cat before surgery, evaluate the cat's individual health status, and then decide on a surgical plan.
6. In China, it is best to wait until the cat is 6-8 months old to be neutered, and ensure that the cat weighs more than 6 pounds. This is because the body organs of a too young cat are immature and the weight is too light, so the cat may not be able to withstand the effects of anesthesia. Spring and autumn are the best.
