Treatment principles for cat pharyngitis:
1. If the pharyngitis is caused by foreign body stimulation, the foreign body should be removed under anesthesia.
2. Antibiotic therapy is recommended. Medications such as: penicillin 50,000 units/kg body weight, intramuscular injection, 2 times/day. Pharyngeal sealing therapy can also be used. Medications such as penicillin 50,000 units/kg body weight, dexamethasone 0.5 mg/kg body weight, and 2% procaine 2 mg/kg body weight are mixed on both sides of the pharynx for sealing injection. 2 Times/day, use for 3 consecutive days. Gentamicin 10,000 units/kg body weight, intramuscular injection, 2 times/day.
3. In the early stage of pharyngitis, you can use ice packs for cold compress. When the heat pain is not obvious in the later stage, you can use hot compress, such as infrared irradiation for 30 minutes each time or TDP irradiation for 30 minutes.
4. When some cats cannot eat, it is recommended to perform infusion therapy.
Symptoms of cat pharyngitis:
1. When a cat has acute pharyngitis, it will have elevated body temperature, fever, poor mental state, and often secretly place to hide.
2. Cats suffering from pharyngitis will have symptoms of throat swelling, which will cause it to feel a tingling sensation when eating, causing difficulty in swallowing and subsequent refusal to eat.
3. Cats suffering from pharyngitis usually have oral symptoms such as drooling and vomiting. In addition, there will be cold symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose, as well as many abnormal behaviors, such as frequently licking the nose and lips with the tongue.
4. When a cat has severe pharyngitis, you will find swelling in this area when you touch its chin and throat. This is due to swollen lymph nodes in the throat and mandible caused by pharyngitis.
