If you are caught by a domestic kitten, you do not need to be vaccinated, because domestic kittens rarely carry rabies virus, so you only need to clean the wound. If it is a stray cat, you need to be vaccinated. Generally, rabies is transmitted through saliva and blood, so scratches are basically not infected, and rabies is only contagious before and after the onset of illness.
