Feline panleukopenia, referred to as feline distemper, is a common feline infectious disease that mainly threatens unvaccinated kittens under one year old. The main clinical manifestations of this infectious disease are fever, leukopenia, vomiting and hemorrhagic enteritis. It is the most common and very dangerous infectious disease in domestic cats. These issues need to be paid attention to when treating cat distemper.

1. Be sure to keep warm.

2. Feline distemper hyperimmune serum is very important. It is actually an antibody to the feline distemper virus. In the treatment, it is the only one that specifically targets the virus. But be careful not to inject for more than three days in a row, as more may cause side effects.

 3. Fluid rehydration balance and prevention of acidosis

Infusion is the best treatment method. If the cat cannot be given infusion, you can feed it a mixture of 10% glucose injection and normal saline every once in a while to help it replenish energy and water.

 4. Use antibiotics to prevent secondary infections

Commonly used antibiotics include gentamicin, which is given twice a day and 20,000 units at a time.

A new antibiotic drug for animals is now called Pukansu. You can consult your doctor for specific dosage.

5. Antiemetic

Metoclopramide injection is a good antiemetic drug and is very important during treatment. It can be injected or taken orally.

 6. Regulate digestive function

During the treatment period, due to the ingestion of a large amount of antibiotics, the cat's normal digestive flora was also destroyed during the treatment. The cat needs to be given some drugs to regulate digestion such as lactase, whole intestines, etc., but it is necessary It should be noted that this type of medicine should be used during the recovery period of feline plague, that is, when the cat starts eating, and should be taken separately from antibiotics at least half an hour apart.

7. Other drugs such as dexamethasone and VC are drugs that help metabolism and can be added depending on the situation.

8. In the diet, be careful not to feed foods that are too high in protein and are not easily digested (milk, eggs, canned food, meat, etc.). Generally speaking, the most common dry cat food with very little oil content can be soaked until soft. .

You can also cook some rice soup or baby rice noodles, add some cat food powder or a little canned soup to enhance the flavor, mix it and feed it to the cat.

You can also buy a nutritional paste for your cat, which has more comprehensive nutrition and is easier to digest.
