Blood in the urine of cats generally indicates inflammation or stones in the urinary system. If your cat is found to have blood in its urine, you can first use hemostatic drugs to stop the cat's bleeding to avoid shock and anemia caused by bleeding. If the cat has mild symptoms of hematuria, you can use some anti-inflammatory drugs containing ingredients such as amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium. However, if the cat has hematuria caused by stones, surgical treatment is required.
There are many reasons for cats to have hematuria. The presence of hematuria generally indicates that there is a problem with the cat’s urinary system, and it needs to be treated symptomatically based on the cat’s specific situation.
1. Blood in the urine of cats is mostly considered to be caused by urinary system infection. Blood in the urine caused by this cause generally does not affect the cat’s normal urination, so in the early stages, the cat’s mental state is generally relatively normal. After discovering that the cat has symptoms of hematuria, you can first use hemostatic drugs to stop the bleeding, and then use amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium for anti-inflammatory treatment.
2. If the cat has symptoms such as painful urination, increased urination frequency, and urinary obstruction in addition to blood in the urine, the cat is more likely to have stones in its body. In terms of treatment, stones that are not completely blocked can be treated through catheterization, flushing and other methods, but if they are completely blocked, surgical treatment is required. Because most cats don’t like to drink water, they are relatively prone to this type of disease. After the treatment is completed, the owner must increase the cat's daily water intake and feed the cat food with a relatively high water content.
3. When some female cats show symptoms of hematuria, their owners may mistakenly think it is menstrual bleeding. But in fact, cats are animals that stimulate ovulation and do not menstruate periodically. Therefore, when you find that your cat has blood in its urine, you should send it to the doctor for treatment in time.
