The normal body temperature of cats is 38.5℃ to 39.2℃, which may be higher in hot summer weather.

Cats’ normal body temperature is higher than that of humans, so they are more afraid of the cold than humans. When the weather is cold, owners should take measures to keep their cats warm.

If you want to take your cat's temperature at home, it is best to measure the inside of the cat's hind legs.

Three ways to measure the temperature of a cat:

1. Anal temperature measurement

This is the most professional method, throw away the thermometer Take a moment and apply some lubricant. Lift the cat's tail and insert the thermometer parallel to the anus. The mercury tip enters the anus about 2 cm, and the reading can be taken after 20 to 30 seconds.

Note that the thermometer should be inserted parallel to the cat’s body, and be careful not to use excessive force to avoid injuring the rectal mucosa. Hold the thermometer carefully and have another person calm the cat so it doesn't struggle.

2. Ear thermometer

Gently hold the ear with your fingers, then put the ear thermometer into the ear, press the measurement button, and then the data will be displayed.

In addition, all you poop collectors should be aware that because the cat’s ear canal is curved, humans cannot accurately measure the cat’s ear temperature with an ear thermometer.

3. Hind limb temperature measurement

Clamp the thermometer between the cat’s hind legs and abdomen, clamp it tightly, and take a reading after five minutes. Remember to add 0.5°C.

Because leg measurement is relatively inaccurate and the cat moves around, it’s best for pet owners to use anal temperature measurement. If it’s leg temperature measurement, it’s best to measure it several times. Compare the measured data.
